As Chairman of the State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA), Bill Mulrow helps to create and implement mortgage-financing programs to make buying a home in the state within the reach of low- to moderate-income residents. Under his leadership, the agency is reaching out to former and current members of the U.S. military through the Homes for Veterans Program. Veterans and current members of the armed forces who qualify can obtain mortgage financing with low interest rates and favorable terms on any of the loan programs offered by SONYMA. This includes financing for new construction and for properties requiring some work to make them livable.

He cheers for all New York sports teams, including the Knicks, the Yankees and the Giants. He catches his alma mater Yale playing whenever he can. In the past few months, his reading material has ranged from a historical novel about President Abraham Lincoln to the recent biography of rocker Bruce Springsteen. Each day, Bill Mulrow splits his work as an executive, public servant and philanthropist. Without the right attitude and work ethic, he would never have made it this far. In his first year with New York State Homes and Community Renewal, Bill Mulrow has worked to increase opportunities for the people of New York. As Chairman of both the Housing Finance Agency and the State of New York Mortgage Agency,  Mulrow ensures that institutional funds remain sufficient for building, maintaining and advancing affordable housing throughout the state. Bill was appointed to the office in March 2012 by Governor Andrew Cuomo and confirmed by a 61-0 vote from the Senate. In addition to his formal responsibilities, Bill functions as part of the Governor’s team to enhance New York’s reputation as a state “open for business.”
