Bill Mulrow – Business Focuses

Bill Mulrow has been able to learn from virtually every person he has met over his 30-year career. Born William Joseph Mulrow, he graduated with honors from Yale and went on to earn an M.P.A from Harvard. Mulrow, an authority on private and public finance, currently resides in Westchester, New York, with his wife and children.

Over the years, he has focused on asset management and investment banking across a range of private, local, state and federal positions. No matter whether the job calls for a quiet conversation or an appearance on MSNBC, Bill Mulrow maintains his loyalty to the community and his commitment to measured results.

In the private sector, Mulrow works as a Senior Managing Director for Blackstone, the world’s largest alternative asset group. He also chairs the board of New England’s sole thoroughbred racetrack, Sterling Suffolk Racecourse LLC. Bill Mulrow’s previous positions include:

  • Director of Citigroup Global Capital Markets

  • Managing Director at Paladin Capital Group

  • Senior Vice President and Head of New Product Development at Gabelli Asset Management

  • Managing Director in Corporate Finance at Rothschild Inc.

  • Managing Director and Head of Public Finance Banking for Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette Securities Corporation

Bill Mulrow extends his for-profit business prowess into the realm of public service. Since 2012, he has been Chairman of New York’s Housing Finance Agency, HFA, and Mortgage Agency, SONYMA. Before this appointment, he had served as:

  • Director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York

  • Director of the Municipal Assistance Corporation for the City of New York

  • Director of the United Nations Development Corporation

  • Chairman of the Westchester County Industrial Development Agency

  • Chairman of the New York City Rent Guidelines Board

  • Candidate for the Office of New York State Comptroller

  • Vice Chair of the New York State Democratic Party

Living a multi-faceted life keeps Bill Mulrow busy, but he would have it no other way. His dedication to hard work and community advancement has led to numerous honors.

Examples include the Roy Wilkins Humanitarian Award of the New York State NAACP, the Humanitarian Award of the North American Boards of Rabbis and the Civic Leadership Award of the Whitney Radio Group of Westchester County. He continues to give back to the community through his former roles as advisor to the Taubman Center for State and Local Government Center at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, advisor to the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Fordham Preparatory School.

After long hours at the office, Mulrow relaxes with a Dan Brown novel or a Yankees game. In the past few months, he has read historical biographies on Lincoln, Kennedy, Eisenhower and Jefferson. He has also read the new Bruce Springsteen biography. He is a die­hard New York sports fan, rooting for the Yankees, Knicks and Giants year-round. As a Yale graduate, he also cheers for his alma mater’s teams. When his adventures at work are not enough, he escapes with his family to such exotic places as Vienna, Paris, Rome, Florence and Capri. Bill Mulrow looks forward to the next adventures his life will bring.
